An exceptionally skillfully sand-cast kettle, with fine detail and a flawless basket-weave pattern. It still blows my mind these were made by hand. The skillful casting is well complemented by a handle with rare gold and silver details in good condition. It is a joy to wrap your fingers around what feels like a piece of jewelry. The pour is also superb. There is an elegance and refinement to this kettle that radiates into the room, like a well-dressed guest.
This is a fantastic all-around kettle for both gong fu or bowl tea; an absolute delight. The only time I wouldn’t reach for this kettle is for a very large side handle or bowl tea ceremony, as a subtle compactness is part of its refinement. The lid is finely turned brass and signed Ryobundo. There are many fake Ryobundo lids out there (probably most of them), but the skill manifest in this kettle leads me to think this is the real deal. As I’m writing this I’m wondering to myself whether I really want to sell it…
